Imperial Beach should be a place where working families can afford to live, raise their families, enjoy our beaches and parks, and count on their local government to fight for them.
Matthew Leyba-Gonzalez is running for Mayor to make Imperial Beach more affordable, bring urgency back to the fight against the sewage crisis, and make City Hall answer to the people who live here.

Matthew knows what it means to work hard all day and still worry about whether your family can afford to stay in the community you love.
As an Army veteran, son of Mexican immigrants, and lifelong union construction worker, Matthew has spent his life standing with working people.
He believes Imperial Beach deserves leadership that understands what families are going through and is willing to fight for them.
As Mayor, Matthew will work to make Imperial Beach more affordable, take on the sewage crisis with the urgency it deserves, and ensure City Hall answers to working families instead of donors, developers, or downtown interests.

Matthew Leyba-Gonzalez has spent his life working hard, serving his community, and standing up for working families.
After high school, Matthew joined the U.S. Army Reserves, where he learned the importance of service, discipline, and hard work.
He went on to earn an Associate Degree from Southwestern Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, becoming the first member of his family to earn a college degree.
Matthew built his career in the union construction industry and currently serves as Business Representative for the San Diego Building and Construction Trades Council, representing thousands of hardworking men and women across San Diego County.
As a member of the Imperial Beach City Council, Matthew has continued that commitment by fighting for residents, workers, neighborhoods, and families throughout the city.
Imperial Beach families are feeling the pressure of rising housing costs, rent, groceries, utilities, and everyday expenses.
Matthew believes the people who work here, raise families here, and contribute to this community should be able to afford to stay here.
As Mayor, he will fight for an Imperial Beach that remains a home for working families, seniors, young people, and the residents who make this city what it is.
Matthew will fight to build the affordable housing Imperial Beach needs so working people have more opportunities to remain in the community they call home.
Families should not be priced out of Imperial Beach by investors who have no connection to our community. Matthew will stand up for renters and residents facing unfair housing pressures.
Matthew will fight to keep parks, recreation programs, beaches, and community resources open and affordable for the people who live here.

Imperial Beach residents have lived with sewage pollution and beach closures for far too long.
Matthew believes our community deserves leaders who treat this crisis with the urgency it demands.
On the City Council, Matthew has stood with leaders like Paloma Aguirre in challenging the sewage status quo.
As Mayor, he will continue fighting for action, accountability, and solutions that protect Imperial Beach residents and our coastline.

Matthew's campaign for Mayor is built on the work he has already been doing for Imperial Beach residents. As a member of the City Council, Matthew has fought to protect working families, strengthen neighborhood services, and ensure residents have a voice in the decisions affecting their community.
Matthew has fought to protect Imperial Beach residents from unjust evictions and defend working families facing housing instability.
Matthew has stood with local leaders demanding stronger action and accountability on the sewage crisis affecting Imperial Beach.
Matthew has worked to deliver first responders and ensure neighborhoods have the services they need.
Matthew has worked to deliver street cleaning throughout Imperial Beach neighborhoods.
Matthew believes public service means listening to residents, showing up for the community, and never forgetting who you work for.
His commitment to Imperial Beach is rooted in three simple values:
Residents deserve leadership that tells them the truth and is accountable for the decisions made at City Hall.
Every resident deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their income, neighborhood, background, or circumstances.
Local government should understand the challenges families face and work toward solutions that improve people’s everyday lives.
Matthew Leyba-Gonzalez is building support from community leaders, working people, and organizations who believe in his vision for a more affordable, accountable, and responsive Imperial Beach.
